Laura Zellweger
Riding Instructor
Laura started her love affair with horses at a young age when a little black pony
lived in the pastrure across from her home. She would stand in the driveway
for hours begging to walk across and pet it. The infatuation grew, and at
age 9 she began formal riding lessons and joined an equine 4-H group. It was
during a field trip with this group that Laura was introduced to the gorgeous stallion
Saddleback Sealect. From that time on she dreamt of nothing but Morgan horses.
At age 14, Laura bought her first Morgan and began riding Saddle Seat.
After high school, Laura attended Cazenovia College and Morrisville ATC, studying
Equine Science. Before finishing her degree, she married and horses took a
backseat to being a wife and eventually mother of six children. She continued
to own Morgans, taking riding lessons and participating in horse-related endeavors.
In 2006, she completed a BS in Child and Family Studies. Today Laura has a
small Morgan farm in Parishville, NY, which was started by her mother in 1991.
Laura began teaching riding instruction at Pray Road Stables in Jully 2009.
She loves sharing her love for horses and riding with all her students and really
believes in the healing power of the horse. |
Morganne Wheeler
Riding Instructor
Morganne is a senior at St. Lawrence
University, majoring in performance and communication arts. She plans to go
to graduate school for social work.
Morganne's love of horses began with
a pony named Robbie. She began riding as soon as she weighed 40 pounds - the
legal weight requirement at the local stables. When she started high school,
her parents decided that she was ready to have a horse of her own. That's
when her first horse Justice came into the picture, teaching Morganne most of what
she knows today. Morganne taught her best friends and her little brother the
basics of riding and eventually taught lessons regularly before leaving for college.
Finding Pray Road Stables her sophomore
year of college was one of the luckiest moments of Morganne's life. She began
as a volunteer, one of the first from St. Lawrence University. She found herself
intrigued and inspired by the success of natural horsemanship and did everything
she could to learn and experience more. She was then employed as a trainer
by Pray Road Stables over the summer, working with one of the younger, less experienced
horses. Morganne now enjoys teaching lessons during the school year at Pray
Road Stables and hopes to continue teaching what she loves in the future.

Emily is a junior at St. Lawrence University, majoring in psychology. She
plans to go on to graduate school for clinical psychology.
Emily developed a love of horses when she began volunteering at ARISE at the Farm,
a farm offering adaptive riding lessons in Chittenengo, NY. After her first
year at ARISE, she decided to take riding lessons herself. She spent four
years volunteering and then working at the farm. While at ARISE, Emily taught
riding lessons, was a camp counselor for summer camps and horsemanship camps, and
also spent a lot of time volunteering with the adaptive riding program (for people
with physical and developmental disabilities). Currently Emily enjoys competing in horse shows.
Emily found Pray Road Stables her sophomore year of college and began volunteering.
Emily exercised horses regularly and eventually began working as a horse handler
for therapy sessions. In 2009, Emily became a Registered NARHA Therapeutic
Riding Instructor and continues to teach lessons at Pray Road Stables. |
